HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN

By 20th March 2015July 12th, 2019No Comments

Friday 20th March: a special day across the globe and not just because most of us will have a rare chance to experience an eclipse.

Because today is International Happiness Day – a day when you have every excuse under the sun (even if it is behind the moon) to be happy. 🙂

So I thought I’d have a look into the power of print and how it can affect happiness and positivity towards a brand as part of the marketing mix. I found some really interesting stuff (and some quite bizarre facts!) to share.

Print in the Heart

“People value something 24% more highly when they can see and physically touch it, compared to only seeing it.”

According to the brain scientists that is. But it’s true:

“57% of people say that they feel more valued when they receive a piece of direct mail.”

So if your aim is to help your target audience feel happier about your brand, print is a great place to start.

Print in the Home

If home is where the heart is, then a good place for your brand to be is on the doormat. People tend to keep hold of printed mail a lot more; many have a display area dedicated to pinning favourite pieces of mail. And on top of that, mail is shared around and discussed – your brand is entering the conversations in one of the happiest places of all: the home.

“People tend to be very happy to receive leaflets and very few (only 8%) say that they find printed mail to be irritating.”

Overall, a good piece of print as part of a multi-channel campaign is still one of the best ways to increase the happy emotions of your target audience.

And now for some happy facts to make you smile:

  • People with a positive outlook are less likely to get flu.
  • Our happiest days are in youth and old age. (To all the middle-aged folk out there, is it time to buck the trend?)
  • Keeping a pet increases happiness.
  • Happy people are likely to live longer.
  • The happiest place in the UK is Harrogate.
  • It takes three times more muscles to frown than it does to smile.
  • Happiness is contagious.
  • Smiling, even when you don’t feel like it, makes you feel happy.
  • Otters hold hands when sleeping so that they don’t drift away from each other.
  • The happiest country in the world is Panama
  • There are some people, called ombrophiles, who passionately love rain (let me know if you are one of them!).
  • A group of porcupines is called a prickle.

Happy Days…

(The facts I’ve quoted for direct mail came from either www.mailmen.co.uk or www.printpower.eu.)
