Since 13th May 2020, sudden loss of smell has been included as a symptom of Covid-19 according to the World Health Organisation. Smell testing certainly has a part to play in the Covid screening process for factories, offices, schools, dentists etc.
Temperature checks have been widely used to screen for fever (another symptom of Covid-19) and smell testing is intended to complement this rather than replace it.
A European study conducted on people with mild forms of Covid-19 showed that 70% experienced loss of smell or taste. The following comments from medical professionals indicate an interesting emphasis on testing for loss of smell:
“My impression is that anosmia [loss of smell] is an earlier symptom of Covid-19 relative to fever, and some infected people can have anosmia and nothing else… So it’s potentially a more sensitive screen for asymptomatic patients.” Andrew Badley, Mayo Clinic (source: advisory.com)
“There really do appear to be distinguishing features that set the coronavirus apart from other respiratory viruses. This is very exciting because it means that smell and taste tests could be used to discriminate between Covid-19 patients and people with a regular cold or flu.” Prof. Carl Philpott, University of East Anglia (source: BBC)
IMPORTANT: If you suspect you have symptoms of Covid-19, you must follow government guidelines in your jurisdiction.
Our Covid-19 smell testing cards and kits provide an easy and disposable means of testing staff, contractors, students, patients and other visitors for anosmia [loss of smell] alongside your normal daily screening routine.
For a detailed overview, see our FAQ section below.
Each smell testing kit is designed to last 4 weeks and contains scratch-and-sniff cards, neutral (no scent) cards and daily screening record sheets. We also offer more basic kits with just the scratch-and-sniff and neutral cards.
You can choose between test kits containing 5 distinctly different fragrances (recommended to vary the tests each day) or just a single fragrance.
The neutral cards have exactly the same design as the scratch-and-sniff cards but do not carry any fragrance. It is recommended that you use these randomly to check for non-reporting of anosmia.
Simply choose your preferred kit from the options below, select number of staff and your kit will be delivered soon!
You can choose either just a single scent or our recommended 5-scent kit, which includes 5 different scents to allow a randomised pattern to your screening process.

The cards contain molecules of easily-distinguishable essential oils such as menthol, lavender, rose etc. The surface of the cards will release scent once rubbed or scratched by a fingertip or some other instrument. You will then hold the card close to (but not touching) your nose to determine whether you have a sense of smell.
Each card is intended for single use by one person only.
These cards are bio-degradable and recyclable so should be disposed with after use.
